It’s about time the Pakistani film industry turned its attention towards animated projects.

• Allahyar and the Legend of Markhor performed well at box office, last year a small project so as per projection it did pretty good.

  The animations were also worthy of praise, bordering on Pixar quality. One had only wished for animation to start really picking up in Pakistan after that. Good news for all of you; The Donkey King is working diligently to make that happen. Geo Films and Talisman Studios has released the teaser for their debut animated feature film… A journey that laid beginning in 2011 «3 Bahadur», Amazing!!!

  Based on the very short clip, The Donkey King apparently follows a life of donkey with his dreams from this. Sure, the protagonist Mangu Mangu Jan Mangu reminds us of Shrek big time but what was brilliant about this teaser is those killer (pun intended) little elements in its 55-second video. The musical pieces are fun and give a light-hearted feel – which is probably what the makers were aiming for. Nevertheless, we are certain that there will be a feel-good message in the movie as well.

  The director of the 3D animated flick, Aziz Jindani told The Express Tribune in an earlier interview, “We created the idea for The Donkey King as far back as in 2003.

  The 39-year-old film-maker said: “I was working with Commander Safeguard team in the year 2013. “On the episode, we came up with the idea that an animated movie could extend beyond just Sonny to kids and appeal more broadly,” he told SYFY WIRE. Sabi ek story he jo sab age k lie sahi rehgi….

  The main character of this movie animated as a hobby by the IBA graduate however seems to look like Hollywood's Donkey.

  Not in a manner I would say. Mangu, with manners and style that are absolutely the opposite of Shrek’s donkey,” he went on. “Mangu is a dreamer. No matter how, He doesn't want to be born with it and has done the best he can not much so. But that is what makes the film special.

  Is that what he is looking to communicate with the film?

  “Ya know, one of the messages is never stop dreaming,” he said to us. We will be detailing the actors behind them at a later date. I feel like if we had given that away right now it would have watered the characters down.
